More experienced swimmers may explore farther along the jetty when conditions permit, but currents can become stronger near the pass and outside the protected area. Always remain aware of your surroundings and stay within your swimming ability.

The rocks may be sharp or slippery, so enter from the sandy beach rather than climbing across the jetty.

Snorkeling is usually best when the Gulf is calm and visibility is good. Morning conditions are often favorable, and arriving early can also help you find parking and enjoy the water before the park becomes busier.

Before entering the water:

  • Check the beach warning flags.

  • Look at the surf and current conditions.

  • Avoid snorkeling during rough weather or poor visibility.

  • Never snorkel alone.

  • Keep children and inexperienced swimmers close to shore.
